Locked & Loaded … Blog, Business, Ministry, All systems are GO!

Today, I’m a Publisher, Church, Business, and Social Media consultant with 20,000+ Followers meeting with ‘Leadership Teams’ nearly every week. I’m also helping these same church and business leaders develop effective blogs, tackle eBranding, build websites and I’m teaching them how to blend the biblical teachings of the bible into their businesses. How did that happen? I’d been deeply involved as an Administrative Pastor at my church for a number of years. Yet, here I am teaching others to do what I have not done so well in keeping my own blog very current. For the past eleven years I’ve been focused on the growth, development and success of my church. Now, it is time to focus on me … my firm and my family. So, it is time to get my blog up to date.

I never thought so much time would pass since my last post. Even that period of time surprises me, … I mean that was December 18, 2009 … sixteen months ago. What happened? I’ve certainly  intended to post for a long now and the more time that passed, the more I knew I needed to say. You see, … so much has happened and the reality is that I knew it was going to take some time to do it right. So, … I waited until I would have the time to think it through and do it the right way. As it turned out. not such a good idea. So here I sit, like the cobbler who repairs and shines everybody else’s shoes with mine badly need a shine. This blog has been in a ‘Pause’ mode long enough and that ends now! Locked and loaded … All Systems Are GO!

Those who don’t really know me will see this simply as a starting point, … fresh and new! Exactly as it should be! And to my friends, Pastor relationships built over eleven years, Continue Reading…

No Time for Bible, … a Solution …

I’ll be expanding this sometime later today … but in a nutshell I found my time increasingly strained. I began to seek out what was causing me to not have more time to get into the word … it was my television! I’m no radical, in fact I’m a child of the fifties so I love TV. But as with all things in life, there must be balance. I’ll share what I did shortly. In the meantime, I’m focusing on the Glory In The Highest concert tonight at Church In The Son. Hope to see you there!

Seeing less of me from now on!

My life story … (no more)

No, I am not getting my legs extended, … I am however getting a jump on my New Years Resolutions!

About a week ago, I was at an ‘all-staff’ meeting listening to Dr. Isaac Jones give a wake-up call to us who are not taking adequate care of ourselves, yep … he was talking directly to ME!  While I have a few challenges as a result of a prior medical condition that affects my metabolism, clearly I am out of shape. I actually ran out of breath walking in the airport a mere week ago and friends, that has never happened before. I’ve always prided myself on being able to walk as fast or as long as about anyone. So what is my plan, … immediately I gave up sugar by way of desserts of any kind. I’m also slowing down my intake of white flour with an exception being made for the occasional pizza dinner which I love. Lastly, exercise! I am going to walk a lot more each day and build up a sweat in order to extend my days to care for my family and not require that they end up having to care for me.

So here I am putting it ALL out there for everyone to know and encourage me as I move along … I actually topped the scale at an embarrassing 199.8 pounds, and no I’m not going to round it up!!! I spent the majority of my life as an adult man at 135lbs and then evolved to around 150lbs as my top out weight. My goal … lose 25lbs 1st quarter, and another 25lbs by the ‘end’ of the 3rd quarter 2010. Last quarter to hold and never get this out of shape again.

I don’t drink sodas, don’t indulge in restaurant sweets but love chocolate ice cream , Tootsie Rolls, and ‘home made’ Toll-House Cookies. These are no longer on my ‘can do’ list. I’d love to join RDV, … maybe by 2011 in this economy. I’ll walk, ride my bike and change …! Yes, I can do it!

Pray for each other so that you may be healed …
James 5:16

While Cheryl’s surgery went extremely well with no complications specific to the procedure, we are now forced to deal with the aftermath in dealing with MS related symptoms.

This morning Cheryl was in great pain as her system is beginning to deal with the pain management requiring a lot of medication. This is considered typical given her condition and past history. Essentially, she is experiencing complications resulting from MS associated pathways stimulated through the surgery. As a result, the brain becomes over stimulated, maintains fluids, has what can be determined as a ‘short-circuit’ in how certain functions are handled and the result is a migraine headache of magnitude proportions. Now many might think … “oh a migraine, … I’ve had a migraine …” but, I’m here to tell you that brain waves and cat-scans don’t lie. She is going through a rough period today and tonight that I would not wish on anyone. The good news is that it shall pass. The bad news is we don’t know when. Could be a day, two, three … it has been as long as five in the past after another procedure she had about five years ago, also in December and right before Christmas.

Cheryl’s Surgery ~ “3 Miracles”

Jesus Surgeon

2 Timothy 1:7  ”7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

I was awakened around 1am by the cries of my wife Cheryl who was in severe pain in her abdominal area. This woman has a very high tolerance for pain so when she says “call an ambulance” … you know it’s pretty bad.

Typical Saturday night at Florida Hospital, Apopka. Many people being treated with emergencies and we were forced to wait many hours until finally seen by a physician. After all blood work and a cat-scan which took three hours to complete in order to allow echoing agent to be processed, she was diagnosed with acute and severe appendicitis.

In a normal bodied person, the infection by such a diagnosis can usually be easily controlled. However, as Cheryl has MS and is currently on a form of ‘nuclear radiation injections’ much like the same medication one is given for leukemia, she is not able to fight infection and it even low levels can be toxic (deadly) for her.

Here is where the “miracles” begin, … just three nights ago Cheryl was called to assist her best friend in handling his 12 year old Chow “Fancy”,  and friend to be put down. It was very hard Continue Reading…

EPCOT 2009: “Jesus” is here

processional6

My son-in-law, a cast member with Disney, graced us with access to EPCOT today and tonight to enjoy the Christmas programs. I’ll tell you this, the name ‘Jesus’ was EVERYWHERE … in stories, song, and clearly in many peoples hearts. Each country presented their traditions and many (like Mexico) offered theirs for ‘The Three Kings.’ But the best, the most wonderful part of the time here today was the “EPCOT Candlelight Processional 2009″ … Disney, you made us Christians very, very proud … thanks! This night, Andy Garcia, surrounded by hundreds of choir members, cast ensemble and musicians … presented the biblical story of the birth of Jesus. Further, they provided that no other person who has ever walked this earth has had the influence such as He. I was so taken by the majesty and presentation that I was brought to tears a number of times through the presentation by music and scriptural readings.

A lifelong Florida resident, this was the first time I’d seen this particular presentation which is offered each year. I tell you this, I’ll not miss another.

EPCOT Candlelight Processional 2010 is already on my calendar for next year!

A bit of comic relief …
